1/28/2014

159. If a man, who has presented a gift to the house of his prospective father-in-law and has given the bride-price, has afterward looked upon another woman and has said to his father-in-law, "I will not marry your daughter"; the father of the girl shall keep whatever he has brought as a present.

I think this one is very fair. It makes a lot of sense. It seems similar to a down payment.

195. If a son has struck his father, his hands shall be cut off.

I'm a bit mixed on this one. I like the enforcement of obeying your parents but I feel like it is a bit overdone.

200. If a patrician has knocked out the tooth of a man that is his equal, his tooth shall be knocked out.

This one shows that the main purpose of these laws is to provide a punishment for the sake of equality.

1/27/2014     We  had class today but I was unable to go because I was sick. I stayed home all day. This might be the result of camping last weekend when it dropped in to the negatives. I should be well enough to return to school tomorrow.

Today was the first day of this class. We went over the rules of blogging. For the most part I think this is a good idea but I might have some problems with them on the weekends. Usually, once a month and I leave on Friday to go camping before I can start my homework. I end up doing it on Sundays. When I am camping I am not allowed to bring any electronics so this might become a problem.
